Thank You, Google, For Making SEO More than a Boring IT Job.

Tonight, while taking a leisurely ride home, I saw some friends from way back when. Conversations ensued, and somehow the inevitable “What are you doing these days?” came up.

Now SEO (Search Engine Optimization for the uninitiated) sounds pretty complicated, so I usually just say something along the lines of… “Well, you see, errr, I make websites do a lot better in Google. And that makes the people who own that site very happy.”

Well this particular night something unusual happened. The guy I was talking to had heard of SEO. And he said, “Well, that must be about the most boring job in the world.”

I was looking for something thorough and yet concise for a client, and came across this ebook.  

It’s a good overview of Wordpress in general, but has taken into account some of the recent changes for Version 2.5.If you are anything like me, you’ll enjoy being able to print this out and have it next to your desk.

How a Re-Design (like the one here!) can Help Search Engine Rankings

I’ve never promised that my design sense is all that great. I’ll leave that to the specialists who could run circles around me in Photoshop, Fireworks, or Illustrator.

But, if you come by this blog much, then you likely noticed that a redesign silently took place.

It was time: I’d heard the last design was everything from “offensive”, “childish”, and downright terrible. The sad thing is- I agreed.

So I finally made time to redo everything. Inspiration awards go out to Dive Into Mark, colourlovers, and the entire redesign was powered by Gala Apples and Chipotle.

Geez, who would have known what would happen when you get on Sphinn?  Someone decided that “Does Google Factor CTR into the Organic Results” deserved to be featured in a podcast!
